The second book of The Blur Trilogy: Fury has arrived only to leave me in suspense for another year! I was thrilled to see the protagonist was a young man, Daniel, who is in his 11th grade year, the school's star quarterback, is in to Math and is shy! (Too often the protagonist is female...)
Just a few days ago I jumped into this series knowing the release of number two was days away. I do love when I discover a trilogy if 2/3 books are out so I won't have to wait too long! NetGalley was awesome in the fact they had the first book available to review, so you could instantly jump into the second one which will release this month. The first book hooked me with the 'blurs' Daniel starts having which lead him to discover the unsolved mystery of several deaths in his small town in Wisconsin. The prologue of Stephen James' newest installment of the series, The Fury, starts with Daniel waking up in a fog of confusion as voices flood over him asking his where he last saw his father while the white fluorescent lights and smells of bleach over power his memory to only faint glimpses of blood dripping from his hands as he holds the knife above his own father....
I couldn't turn the pages fast enough and managed to ignore all household chores and work responsibilities as I had to learn how this book was going to end! This second book held me captive more than the first based on the plethora of activities emerging throughout leading me into a crazed frenzy of fast reading! I couldn't figure out who was committing the multitude of crimes that James kept throwing at me. It was wonderful! There is a the possible murder of Daniel's father, a poacher shooting-to-kill wild endangered wolves, a lighthouse murder which occurred in the 1930s, plus a fish hatchery Institution that is a front to a chronobiotic research lab. Not to mention the character development of Daniel and his three friends who seem to be able to help Daniel decipher what is reality verse the psychotic episodes which Daniel believes he must internally fight. I forgot about the mysterious man, Mr. Zacharias, who helps Daniel escape from the mental hospital where he is placed once they discover he was the one who injured his own father. I simply cannot wait to read the last and final part of the trilogy!
